Meet the Team Behind North East Osteopaths

Walk into North East Osteopaths and you'll be greeted by two practitioners who understand that most of the people who need help aren't athletes — they're parents lifting kids and prams all day, tradies on their feet for nine hours, office workers hunched over a desk, or someone who just woke up one morning and couldn't turn their neck. Here's a proper introduction to the people behind the practice, and the everyday aches and pains they spend most of their days treating.

Dr Steve Vickery

Steve has been working as an osteopath for 10 years. He holds a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) and an Advanced Diploma of Sports Therapy from Victoria University, and has spent a decade in private practice treating the everyday population — think stiff backs from long days at a desk, tension headaches, shoulder and hip pain, and the general aches that build up from work, parenting, and simply getting older.

He's genuinely passionate about all aspects of health and injury, with a particular interest in spinal and lower limb pain — two of the most common reasons people put off getting help until it's really bothering them. Steve's goal with every patient is the same: figure out what's actually driving the pain, and get them back to moving comfortably through their normal day.

Dr Tahlia Austin

Tahlia holds a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) and has been practising for several years, working with everyone from weekend gardeners to people recovering from long hours at a computer. She has a particular interest in spinal injuries, especially lower back and neck pain — two of the most common (and most frustrating) complaints people bring through the door, whether it started from a single bad lift or has just crept up over time.

Tahlia's approach is about practical, lasting change rather than a quick fix — hands-on treatment paired with simple, doable exercises people can actually stick to. Outside the clinic, she recharges by travelling, relaxing at home with her dog Murphy, and enjoying a good dinner out.

Why We Started North East Osteopaths

Steve and Tahlia have treated plenty of athletes over the years, but the vast majority of people who walk through their door are everyday locals — people with a sore lower back from gardening on the weekend, a stiff neck from too many hours at a laptop, or hip and knee pain that's been quietly getting worse. Time and again, they saw the same pattern: someone would get good hands-on treatment, feel better for a few days, and then slide right back into the same pain because nothing about their daily movement or strength had actually changed.

They knew lasting relief doesn't happen on the treatment table alone — it happens in the days and weeks after, when people are guided through the right movement to actually fix the underlying problem, not just settle the symptoms. So when Steve and Tahlia set out to build a clinic of their own, closing that gap for everyday patients was the whole starting point.

That's why North East Osteopaths is based upstairs at Pivot Sports Performance in Bundoora — it puts a fully equipped gym directly alongside clinical care, so rehab isn't something patients are told to “go and figure out somewhere else.” It's a five-minute walk from assessment and treatment to actually doing the work that gets people better and keeps them that way, no sporting background required.

For Steve and Tahlia, North East Osteopaths is the practice they always wished existed for the everyday person — not just the elite athlete. If you're in Bundoora, Mill Park, Watsonia, Macleod, or Greensborough and dealing with a niggle that won't go away, they'd love to meet you too.
